Two Chinese reporters who investigated working conditions at Apple’s iPod factories are being sued for $3.8 million, but rather than silencing the press, the case is generating more ink than ever.
Foxconn, Apple’s Chinese iPod contractor, has filed a $3.75-million defamation suit against two investigative reporters at China Business News, a leading Shanghai-based financial newspaper.
Chinese journalists and lawyers say the massive claim for damages — the equivalent of more than 500 years of salary for an average reporter — is aimed at silencing the controversy and an increasingly vocal press . . .
