Now, for the age-old question of netiquette: is it appropriate to comment on a two year old post if the author of said post is pimping it out there? I say yes.

I agree with everything you said. (And for the record, Canada is even more awesome than you can imagine. Seriously.) The US I remember as a kid (I grew up in a border town, and the American city next door was our "big city" to go to for pro sports and the like) is nothing like it is today. I used to long to move there someday. Now, I'm worried they will view our more liberal immigration policies as a national threat and invade us.

very good and valid points. mostly 9-11 causes frustration for me, why the hell are we still in iran, iraq and afghanistan? why did we go into those countries without having a clear plan and an exit strategy?

i will offer this though, i think part of the reason people reacted so strongly to this and not to the tsunami or more recently the earthquakes, floods and all the rest of it is because this was entirely caused by man. that and it was on our homeground. americans in general are pretty naive when it comes to matters of war, myself included, so when we are slapped with a reminder we tend to react badly and without thinking things through.

Grouch, no, I don't think we were inviting anything. I think that the Middle Eastern fundamentalist hatred of America is related much closer to our support of Israel in all things. And I'm not sure what we could have done about that – I have no problem supporting Israel.
