Comfort food is . . .

A Double Whopper with fries.
A grocery store-style birthday cake, cold enough that the icing is hard.
Hot apple pie with ice-cold vanilla ice cream.

What’s your comfort food?

a slinger – a St. Louis dish made of layered hashbrowns, hamburger patties, and eggs topped with chili, cheese and onions. See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slinger, but don’t believe the hype – any variation from the ingredients I listed above is NOT a true slinger.

NYCWD, we are on the exact same wavelength, I see.

Rattling the Kettle, wow. I’m totally not hungry anymore!

    Karen, peppers and hummus? Hm.

Amanda, I could eat an entire box of Cap’n Crunch.

Tori, you don’t like warm, soft and creamy stuff from penises?

Jay, like a Pizza Hut MeatLovers?

Mary, asparagus and “comfort food” were two concepts I’d never put together before.

Meg, I love a good grilled cheese sandwich!

Gwen, I lived in Saint Louis and never heard of slinger. It sounds like I missed out!

Dee, gherkin dip? Does it taste like pickles?

Winter, I love creme brulee – the crispy and creamy combination really go well.

Sarah, so, do you like chocolate or something?

Yoshi, good ramen, though, right? Not the cheap stuff.

Zom, there you go, reminding me of Carl’s Jr again. I’m so jealous!

Dave, I was totally hoping your answer would be a double cheeseburger.

Kay, I said comfort food, not protein for hair growth and good skin!

DaDuck, mashed potatoes and gravy are always good.

Kay, I always dip my fries in mayo.

    Crys, what’s pork tonkatsu?

DebbieS, cake is always better the next morning from the fridge!

Mr. Fabulous, so they have to be Tyson to be comfort food, eh?

Turnbaby, well, damn. I’m coming to your house for some garlic smashed potatoes!

Hallie, I love the Shamrock shakes!

Poppy, didn’t you hear? I have a vagina! And I can’t believe there aren’t more foods that make you go NOM NOM.

Heather, sour cream pancakes? Are those like potato latkes?

Maman, a lot of people have mac and cheese as comfort food. I’ve just never gotten into it.

Tracy, I’ve been thinking of Krispy Kreme every morning. I might have to go get some one of these days.

Steph, I’ve never had nutella on brownies. I’ll have to try that.

Rachel, Crystal’s around. Just not doing videos anymore.

    Tracy, suuuure it is.

RedBetty, McDonald’s double cheeseburgers are sooooo greasy.

    Jules, close enough.

Winter, well, he is damn sexy.

Meg, comfort food is there to eat, not avoid!

Summer, homemade biscuits are always good.

    Been there, cold spaghetti???

Charissa, ok, that stuffing sounds horrible, but I agree with you on the waffle fries with mayo! Congrats on the weight loss!

BB, I agree completely. I need to go buy some now.

    Homemade:

    my grandmother’s tuna casserole
    my grandfather’s sausage mostaccioli
    my own bacon barbecue cheeseburgers

    Restaurant/Fast Food:

Pizza, with enough meat to make all animals shudder nervously and back away slowly

    Burger King cheeseburgers

    Fettucine alfredo

    Crab cakes!!!!!!!

    KFC barbecue boneless wings

Taco Bell 7-layer burrito (without lettuce, which I guess would make it only a 6-layer burrito), drowned in “fire” sauce, with an extra side of rice

Warm gooey brownies, fresh out of the oven

I need to stop now…. I think I gained ten pounds just from typing this.
    Thanks a lot.
