I obsess

When I find something I like, I obsess over it.

Whether it’s a video game (which I still haven’t gotten to fucking play, fuck you very much Rockstar), or a food, or a song, when I find something that pleases my senses, I tend to go a bit overboard with it. With food, I’ll usually eat it until I’m sick of it. With video games, I have to play the game until I beat it, and nothing had better get between me and the finish line.

With music, though, I just listen to it over and over. And over. And over. I’ll put a song or an album on repeat for days or weeks. I won’t be able to listen to anything else. Yes, it’s a sickness.

My new obsession? Amanda Palmer. Part of the Dresden Dolls (a band I still haven’t listened to), she went off on her own in a new album, entitled “Who Killed Amanda Palmer?”

It’s outstanding and I just can’t get enough of it!

Here are three of my favorite songs:

Tonight (that’s Wednesday night for you mental midgets out there) is a brand new installment of “Clearly, You’re Retarded”!

Is there any good reason to have arranged marriages in today’s world? Was there ever any good reason? Should marriage be about love or about convenience?

Britt and I are going to discuss when your nuptials should be a business arrangement from 9 PM to 10 PM EST on Talkshoe. You can listen live online at Talkshoe.com, or download the Talkshoe application and you can chat and even call in!

It will be interesting to see which one of you actually is FOR arranged marriages. I can hear a lot of screeching now.

  2. I love the Dresden Dolls, especially Amanda’s voice and piano skills. You feel everything she’s feeling when you hear her. She is amazing.

Now that she’s got a solo album, I hope they didn’t break up…

    Brechtian punk cabaret? I’m in.

You got to appreciate a woman who can handle a cover of War Pigs live in concert.

Love it, love her. I am like you with music, too- I play it over and over and over. I don’t care if everyone around me is sick of it, either!
Can’t wait to hear the show tomorrow.

  6. I do not know this lady.

And I have a distain for Leeds United the football club, yet I quite liked the song of the same title.

Now your twitter last night makes sense.

Meh to her. She sounds like a woman trying to sound like a man to me.

I will be busy attending the party that Beaner/Lollipop escorted Dawg to last year to try to get him dates (which cracks me up since everyone on the internet thinks he’s awesome [admit it, you'd do him if you weren't scared of my wrath]). We can’t leave until it’s done. It starts at 7pm… and goes until tomorrow. I’m thrilled at the prospect.

My opinion on this matter is that I’m not qualified to answer the question considering I don’t come from a culture/heritage of arranged marriage. It’s not a cop-out, I just don’t know enough about the subject to have an opinion one way or the other.

  10. I’m obsessive about things I enjoy/like too. I can’t say that I liked Amanda Palmer’s voice, but I do appreciate her piano skills and musicality. I will do my best to be home tonight to listen to the show, this should be an interesting topic. I’m sorry that I’ve missed the last few weeks!

    I have a few obsessions.

The Dresden Dolls and their zooted and polluted fan base are not one of them.

I completely understand and share this trait. She doesn’t do it for me but god knows I’ve posted about my musical and other obsessions more than once ;-)

I’ll try to tune in–I have done a couple of divorces involving arranged marriages. I also think this dovetails with the whole ‘love’ discussion that has been bantered about.

How can you not like pasta???

Leeds united are my sort of local football team. I can’t quite work out if that song is anything about them. I suspect not but i’m no good at lyrics, they kind of wash over me.

I do the same thing with new music. I gorge!

I’m not sure about Amanda though. I heard her for the first time yesterday when I created an ADELE station on Pandora. “Leeds United” was the song. I remember it because I thought, “What IS that?”

I am, however, obessessed with ADELE right now. Especially “Make You Feel My Love.”

  17. I’m like that with music too. I have been listening to Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’ CD since the beginning of the year. I’m now feeling the need for something new to latch on to, but I don’t think Amanda Palmer is it.

  19. I will have to download her because I can’t get your thingamajig to stop buffering.

I’m giving her a shot mainly because of the title of her cd. It really doesn’t get much better than that as far as obscure pop-culture references go.

Though I doubt I will like her, as much I’d love to do so, simply because the Dresden Dolls? ::shudder::

I tend to overindulge in things that I like as well….which is why now, even the smell of Chipotle can make me queezy. I ate it everyday for about two months. I had to walk about a mile to the nearest one to my work. Then, they finally brought one to the suburbs and I have never been to it. Meh.

I obsess too. It drives everyone crazy. Especially the people with desks near me who have to listen to my current musical obsession over and over and over again. And also, maybe this is some weird strain of OCD that we have. Instead of washing our hands, we have to eat pizza with green peppers and sausage every day until we want to puke when we look at it.
