Seriously! Stop eating! Xbox and candy? Who could pass that up?
@Thursday’s Child, but pizza! Burgers!
All I could think of when I saw “If I was a stuffed tiger” was “my dog would hump you in the face.”
@Mei, if I were a stuffed tiger, I’d probably like it.
Well, were you? Oh, you mean “If I were a stuffed tiger.” Watch that conditional. You’re welcome.
@Alex, nope. I disagree – this is an informal phrase that’s not even a complete sentence, and without the second part of the clause, conditional would sound weird.
@Avitable, In the strictest sense, Alex is correct; however, common parlance allows “was.”
In the end, English is a wide and varied language, and while many grammatical conventions should be followed, the minor ones can be dispensed with in the interest of aesthetics.
@Thursday’s Child, oh, I know that technically, it’s correct, but in informal writing, the rules are flexible. That was my point. 🙂
But surprisingly not an anatomically correct stuffed tiger?
@Christina, well, now THAT would be creepy.
That is the correct usage of conditional. Not that you need my validation.
I don’t get this, though. Are you eating everything in sight, but Calvin is telling you to stop so you can go be molested?
Really great drawing of the van.
Are you branching out to children’s books soon?
@Poppy, I’m a bad pet tiger because I’m too busy eating pizza to protect Calvin from evil men in vans!
Now I’m craving breakfast pizza. Damn.
@Hi, I’m Natalie., mmmm, breakfast pizza.
I would have thought you’d be distracted by frosted flakes…..
@Blondefabulous, wrong tiger!
@Sybil Law, c’mon, you’d love an Avitable stuffed tiger doll.
Poor Calvin. But you know, maybe if he didn’t throw so many snowballs he wouldn’t have gotten snatched by the molester van. Karma.
@Lisa, excellent point. He brought it on himself. He shouldn’t have dressed in such short shorts, either!
(pizza + burger) > (candy + xbox)
My son Calvin didn’t see this but it is his birthday on Oct 18, he was named for the comic strip character and for the first 5 years of his life he thought the comic strip was drawn about him. What can I say I raise kids with good self esteem I guess. Thanks for the laughs Adam.
This is by far my favorite drawing of yours. evah!
