What is something I never get complimented on?
Anything that I don’t get complimented on would be my own fault, because I tend to divert emphasis from those attributes or skills. For example, even though I rarely cook, I’m actually quite good at it. I can’t improvise or throw together a meal from scratch, but my Thanksgiving turkey is the best I’ve ever had, I make excellent apple pie and mashed potatoes, and as long as someone understands the proper temperature to eat steak (medium rare), mine is superb. Everything that I do well, though, I’ve received compliments from at least one person in my life, so I can’t really complain that I don’t get complimented on them.
As far as attributes of mine (vs. skills) that don’t receive compliments, I don’t know. I think it’s only in recent times that people have realized how complex I actually am. I’m intuitive, emotional, and highly creative, but also left-brained to a fault. I’m a superb salesman and have only known one other person who could sell as well, if not better than I can. But these are all weird things to compliment. If I had to pick one, maybe it’s that kids love me and I do really well with them.
In the end, I feel like I get enough compliments, and this whole post feels like I’m fishing for more. I’m not. I feel blessed to get the positive responses that I already do.
